Avanti Architects has been closely involved in housing for twenty years. We work with commercial developers, housing associations, local authorities and private clients. The resulting body of work includes a wide range of new buildings, many conversion projects and the restoration of a significant number of listed buildings.
These schemes comprise virtually every type of residential use: private houses, apartment buildings, houses or hostels for special needs groups, sheltered housing and lifetime homes. We have also designed for many different forms of tenure: housing for sale, fair rent, market rent, shared ownership, NHS staff accommodation and housing co-operatives.
The key to our approach to residential design is to create streets and buildings which have legible layouts and a clear separation of private and public space. We plan entrances and internal circulation spaces with a clarity that allows natural supervision and provides safety.
Space is the greatest luxury in a city and we design the interiors of apartments and houses to take advantage of all the available sunlight and the views which are offered. By creating a set of relaxed, well proportioned volumes which can be readily adapted, we aim to maximise the feeling of space in even the tightest situations. We aim to design buildings that are simple to construct and easy to maintain. We welcome the greater use of prefabricated building to deliver buildings faster and to raise standards of energy conservation.
