Barbara Weiss Architects is a well-established, medium-sized architectural practice, undertaking a variety of projects in London and abroad.
Since inception in 1987, BWA has been growing and developing in many directions, though residential commissions (both refurbishment and new-build construction) still constitute the majority of its work.
BWA's reputation for excellence is due to its particular ability to satisfy clients' individual requirements with high quality design solutions. Constant care in resolving architectural issues is apparent in all projects, irrespective of scale or budget.
While each project is highly personal to client and location, it is also theoretically and stylistically rigorous. Formally therefore all of BWA's work is characterised by a strong and recognisable consistency of approach. The simplicity of lines and richness of detailing achieves a timeless and understated elegance, always and very deliberately sympathetic to its particular setting.
A high percentage of BWA's work has involved buildings that are listed or located within Conservation Areas. Consequently, over the years the practice has developed a substantial expertise in this field, forging in the process a multitude of comprehensive professional relationships.
Amongst over 100 residential projects undertaken, which include a great number of refurbishments of large scale London family homes, stand out for note a new house in Kensington, the creation of an 8,000 sqft penthouse in a loft building in West London, a 4,000 sqft new-build stone and render house on the island of Anglesey and the refurbishment and extension of a 9,000 sqft 1926 villa in Beverly Hills. Recently BWA has been working on a block of flats for first - time buyers and key workers and obtained planning permission for live work units in South London.
BWA has participated twice in the Mode residential exhibition.
