We specialise in housing layout design, master planning and the preparation of design briefs and design codes. In particular we have developed an expertise in resolving the spatial problems resulting fro higher densities and mixed uses to the satisfaction of both planning authorities and developers.

Since the inception of the practice in 2003, we have carried out:-
*Design briefs for a 20,500 sq m retail development and a 40,000 sq m business area for local authority clients.
*A Conservation Area Appraisal for a local authority client.
*A master plan for 400 dwellings for a developer client.
*A number of housing layouts ranging from 14 to 450 dwellings in England and Ireland for developer clients.
*Case studies exploring the implications of various forms of higher density mixed use development for the Urban Place Supplement to Essex County Council's Design Guide.
*Case studies for medium-density housing development for the design guide of another local authority client.

An architect-planner, Alan Stones has thirty-five years' experience in housing layout design, master planning and design guidance. He was Head of Historic Buildings and Design at Essex County Council and co-author of the Essex Design Guide 1997. He is past chair of the Urban Design Group and former Principal Director of Melville Dunbar Associates.
